Who we are
Ask From Video (askfromvideo.com, askfromvideo.in and askfromvideo.online) is operated by the AskFromVideo team (“we”, “us”). This policy explains how we handle personal data when you use the website and its services.

What we collect
- Account details: your email address and name. If you sign up with a password, we store only a salted hash of it, never the password itself. If you sign in with Google, we receive your Google account ID, email address and name from Google.
- Videos you add: YouTube links and their public details (title, channel, thumbnail, length). For uploaded videos, the file itself and its name, size and length.
- Content we create for you: transcripts, summaries, key takeaways, chapters, translations, and the questions you ask with their answers.
- Preferences: the language you choose for the site.
- Technical data: IP address, browser type and request details in our server logs, used for security and troubleshooting.
- Usage statistics: aggregated, anonymous page-view statistics (Vercel Web Analytics), which do not use cookies or identify you.
- Product analytics: Google Analytics for Firebase records which pages you visit and actions such as signing in, adding a video or asking a question, along with your device, browser and approximate location. It does not receive your email, your videos or your questions.
How we use it
- To provide the service: process your videos, create transcripts, summaries and chapters, and answer your questions.
- To keep you signed in and to secure your account.
- To prevent abuse, investigate problems and keep the service running.
- To understand, in aggregate, how the site is used so we can improve it.
- To contact you about your account or important changes to the service.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for advertising profiles. The site does not currently show third-party ads; if that changes, we will update this policy first.
How AI is used
To create summaries, translations and answers, we send the relevant transcript text and your questions to AI providers: Google (Gemini), OpenRouter and Groq. To transcribe uploaded videos, we send the video’s audio to Groq (Whisper) or Google (Gemini). If one provider is unavailable, the same request may be sent to another.
These providers process the data to return a result to us. Depending on the provider and plan, they may keep it for a limited time, and some free plans allow the provider to use it to improve their services. We do not use your content to train our own models.
Don’t upload videos or ask questions that contain sensitive personal information (for example health, financial or identity details) about you or anyone else.
Who we share data with
We share data only with service providers that help us run Ask From Video, and only as needed for that purpose:
- Hosting and infrastructure: Render (application servers), Neon (database) and Upstash (processing queue).
- Analytics: Google (Google Analytics for Firebase), as described above.
- Google: Google Sign-In, if you use it, and YouTube, whose player and captions we use for YouTube videos.
- AI providers: Google (Gemini), OpenRouter and Groq, as described above.
- Caption services: when YouTube limits our servers, we may fetch a video’s public captions through a transcript service (Supadata) or a proxy provider. Only the YouTube link is shared with them.
We may also disclose data if the law requires it, to protect the rights and safety of our users or others, or as part of a merger or sale of the service, in which case this policy continues to apply.
Cookies and similar technologies
- afv_refresh_token: keeps you signed in. It is essential, cannot be read by scripts on the page, and expires after 30 days.
- afv-language: remembers the language you picked, for up to one year. It is set only if you choose a language.
- Third parties: when you play a YouTube video, the YouTube player may set its own cookies; Google Sign-In does the same when you use it. Their use is covered by Google’s privacy policy.
- Analytics: Google Analytics for Firebase sets cookies (such as _ga) to count visits and tell returning visitors apart, for up to two years.
You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings, but you won’t be able to stay signed in without the first one.
How long we keep data
We keep your account, videos, uploaded files, transcripts, summaries and questions for as long as your account exists, and delete them when you ask us to delete your account. During the beta, uploaded files may occasionally be removed earlier because of storage limits. Server logs are kept for a limited period for security and troubleshooting, then deleted.
Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU and UK, India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, or California privacy law), you may have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you and get a copy of it;
- correct inaccurate data;
- delete your account and data;
- object to or restrict certain processing, or withdraw consent;
- complain to your local data protection authority.
To make a request, email contact@askfromvideo.com from the address linked to your account. We will respond within 30 days. Deleting your account removes your videos, uploaded files, transcripts and questions.
Security
We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), store passwords only as salted hashes, protect uploaded videos with short-lived signed links, and limit access to personal data. No online service can be completely secure, so we can’t guarantee absolute security.
Children
Ask From Video is not intended for children under 13. If you are under 18, or under the age of majority where you live, please use the service only with the permission of a parent or guardian. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
International transfers
Our service providers may process data in countries other than yours, including the United States and Singapore. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the providers’ standard contractual clauses.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the service changes. We will update the date at the top, and for significant changes we will let you know on the site or by email before they take effect.
